Liliana Cano
“The story of humans has always fascinated me. Basically, I always do the same thing: I tell stories. Small, light, heavy. I like to tell about Humanity, its suffering, its pleasures, its happiness. I love Humanity.”
Liliana Cano (Gorizia, 1924 - Sassari, 2021) was one of the most original personalities in Italian art from the post-World War II period onwards. With a career lasting over 70 years, she traversed various moments and styles, transforming the canvas into a stage for her vocation, exuding vitality and passion in every brushstroke. This has made her one of the most appreciated and recognized painters of her generation.
For Liliana Cano, art was not just a choice or a profession, but a true innate talent. Her statement, “I was born, I grew up, and I painted all the time” resonates like a hymn to the fusion of life and art, highlighting the visceral connection that bound her to the creative act.
The vivid colors and palpable energy of her paintings testify to a disruptive vitality that burned within her until the very end.
The fiery reds, sparkling yellows, and deep blues directly and effectively reveal the emotions and energy that the artist wanted to communicate to the world. A bright chromatism became the distinctive signature of her painting, which knew neither fears nor limits, but only the power to fully express itself.

Dopo il grande successo riscosso da “Liliana Cano. Il fuoco dentro”, la grande mostra svoltasi a Sassari dal 10 luglio al 20 settembre 2026, diventa un’esposizione virtuale esplorabile a distanza. Dipinti inediti, fotografie e materiali d’archivio raccontano oltre settant’anni di pittura.
Museo diffuso Liliana Cano
Dopo un intenso lavoro di co-progettazione, sabato 20 dicembre 2025 è stato ufficialmente inaugurato il Museo Diffuso Liliana Cano, un nuovo percorso culturale e identitario che celebra il legame tra l’artista e la comunità di Oliena.
Abitare lo spazio
“Abitare lo spazio” è la piattaforma digitale dedicata alla ricerca sulle opere pubbliche di Liliana Cano in Sardegna. Un progetto innovativo che rende fruibile in modalità open-access, grazie alle nuove tecnologie, un patrimonio diffuso nel territorio regionale, spesso esposto alle minacce del tempo, alla perdita di visibilità o all’accessibilità limitata.

On the occasion of the centenary of the artist's birth, the Liliana Cano Archive was established with the aim of preserving, promoting and disseminating the artistic and cultural legacy of this great Sardinian painter, appreciated and recognized internationally.
